These rough Ethiopian Smoked Black Opal slice beads have been treated to give them their dark colour. The heat treatment usually involves wrapping the opals in paper and heating them producing smoke. Smoke particles then enter the opal and darken their colour. This intense dark colour beautifully highlights vibrant flashes of green, blue, ultra-violet and red fire running through these beads. Each bead is different and would create unique pieces of jewellery.
