Precious Metal Clay is an amazing product! In the early 1990s, Mitsubishi Metals completely revolutionised the jewellery world by developing this amazing clay which turns into 99.9% pure silver when fired.

Over the years it has been improved and adapted so it can be fired with a gas torch (originally it had to be kiln fired), the shrinkage has been reduced and the composition has been altered to provide stronger fired pieces – all resulting in the brilliant, superior products available today.

  • This Precious Metal Clay (PMC3) paste contains metal clay with a silver content of 15g
  • Can be fired with a gas torch or in a kiln
  • The clay can be moulded, sculpted and formed just like ceramic clay
  • When fired, the paste shrinks at a rate of 12-15% which can help to enhance detail
  • It has a paste consistency similar to the slip used in ceramic clay work so it can be applied using a brass brush for creating interesting textures
  • It's invaluable for 'gluing' PMC components together prior to firing and for repairing any broken parts and filling cracks
  • One of our favourite uses for the paste is to paint it onto organic objects, building the paste up in layers to your desired thickness and then firing the whole thing. The organic core is burnt away during firing to leave a pure silver replica of the original object. Leaves work particularly well with this technique and you can create really beautiful, professional looking pieces of jewellery this way.
  • Larger objects can be coated and fired to create hollow forms for beads
  • The product is also available in syringe and sheet form
