How To Make A Sliding Knot

Sliding knots are a great way of making an adjustable and tidy fastening to a variety of jewellery designs.

This knot can be used for cotton cord, leather cord, silk cord, suede cord or hemp cord. It is a great way for making multi-fit pieces.

What you'll need to make a sliding knot bracelet

  • Your choice of cord
  • Your choice of large hole beads or charms for decoration
  • A pair of scissors or snips

Top tips for a prefect sliding knot

The length of your cord needs to be around double the finished length of your bracelet or necklace. Any beads or charms need to be threaded on the cord before you tie the knots.

 


Here's our handy step by step guide on how to create a sliding knot

Step 1

Cross the left cord over the right cord.

Step 1: Crossing the left cord over the right cord to begin a sliding knot for jewellery making


Step 2

Thread the left cord around and under so that it is coming back towards you.

Step 2: Threading the left cord around and under the main cord, bringing the end back towards the front.


Step 3

Threat the cord back over to create a loop.

Step 3: Creating the first loop of the sliding knot by threading the cord back over itself.


Step 4

Repeat this process to create two loops – try to ensure your second loop is to the left of your first loop.

Step 4: Repeating the loop process to create two parallel loops on the left side of the cord.


Step 5

Thread the end of the cord through the loops.

Step 5: Passing the end of the cord through both loops to secure the knot structure.


Step 6

Pull the cord so the loops close tight.

Step 6: Pulling the cord tight to close the loops and finalize the first side of the sliding knot.


Step 7

Repeat this process with the other end of the cord.

Step 7: Repeating the same knotting process on the opposite end of the cord for a double sliding knot


Step 8

Cut off any excess cord as close to the knot as possible. Your sliding knots are know finished. Pull the knots and adjust the cords. to make your design larger or smaller.

Step 8: Using scissors to trim excess cord close to the finished sliding knot for a professional finish.
