About Labradorite

Labradorite belongs to the Feldspar group of minerals. This gorgeous gemstone is popular among jewellers due to its stunning range of colours and iridescent effect. This fantastic iridescent is caused by internal fractures that reflect light back and forth. This beautiful white/blue flash is also known as adularescence and this effect is so unique to labradorite that it has been named 'labradorescence'. Labradorite also has aventurescence, a wonderful metallic glitter caused by the diffraction of light from mineral platelets. It is named after the Canadian providence of Labrador which is one of its main sources, but it is also mined in Finland, Ukraine, Madagascar and Australia. It measures 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness and is very sensitive to pressure.
