About Hematite

Hematite is a form of iron oxide and is one of the most common minerals found on earth. Hematite has a gorgeous metallic lustre which makes it such a great stone to use in unique jewellery designs. It is responsible for the red colour of many minerals, such as sandstone but in gemstone form, it appears as a black/silver/grey colour. It is mined throughout the world in England, USA, Mexico and Canada. It measures 6 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

Hematite is a popular choice for jewellery designs and historically has been used for mourning jewellery. Hematite is great for making beautiful necklaces and bracelets, as well as in men's jewellery. Care needs to be given when using hematite when jewellery making as it is a soft and brittle stone.
