Further details about the metals can be seen below, alternatively if you would like larger pieces, we sell both these metals cut to your own specifications, to see these click here for mokume gane and here for silver crinkle metal.
Mokume gane: Mokume gane sheet is a beautiful patterned metal originating from Japan, 'mokume gane' is Japanese for wood grain. It is made up of approximately 25 alternating layers of sterling silver and copper, hand worked to reveal the pattern (with a plain silver back). As it is made up of silver and copper it is easy to work and can be treated exactly as you would either of these metals, it can be soldered with silver solder and polished as you would with silver and copper. For more in depth information about using this beautiful 'wood grain' patterned metal click here. Available in three designs, all with a thickness of 0.5mm. As the mokume gane is a hand worked metal the pattern and pattern direction may vary slightly from the photographs shown.
Silver crinkle metal: This clever silver metal sheet immediately reticulates with a lovely crinkled texture as soon as it is brought up to temperature with a gas torch. The beauty of this metal is that it can be formed before bringing out the surface texture and it will hold its shape perfectly. This is such a great way to create beautiful texture on your pieces without any compromise on design. If you are unhappy with the reticulated areas you can overheat the metal which will cause the alloy to flow freely on the surface of the fine silver where it may be stirred with a soldering poker or metal brush for unusual effects. Heat resistant chip or granules can be added into the molten surface for even more of a unique design or why not add a patina with liver of sulphur to your end design just as you might with a sterling silver piece.
