Mokume Gane 0.5mm thick sheet is a beautiful patterned metal originating from Japan.
If you can't decide which pattern of mokume gane to buy or if you are trying it for the first time then these assorted packs are just what you need! The size and shape of the pieces vary; they are mainly small rectangles and long strips but all pieces are useful. There are enough pieces to add an interesting element to a few of your jewellery projects.
What is it? 'Mokume Gane' is Japanese for wood grain. It is made up of approximately 25 alternating layers of sterling silver and copper, hand-worked to reveal the pattern. As it is made up of silver and copper it is easy to work and can be treated exactly as you would either of these metals to create unique pieces of jewellery!
- 24 gauge, thickness approximately 0.5mm
- Available as an assorted pack of various shapes & sizes
- Approximately 3.5g (the number of pieces will be dictated by the weight of each piece in the pack)
- Each pack will contain at least one patterned piece of mokume gane metal sheet in the following two patterns: ladder (stripey) and raindrop (concentric circles). The ladder has the pattern on both sides of the metal and raindrop has the pattern on one side and a silverback
- Sheet is supplied fully annealed (soft), making it flexible and easy to create your design
- Solder with sterling silver solder or ready fluxed solder paste
- Polish as you would with silver and copper
- Sold as an approximate 3.5g assorted pack of 2 different patterns (you will be selected a pack at random on purchase)
