Being creative with gemstones

Sometimes you hold a gemstone in your hand and it instantly tells you a story which is why we loved these beautiful mermaids by Anne-Marie Jewellery and were so please that she wanted to share them with you. Natalie (the maker behind Anne-Marie Jewellery) told us how she made them:

They are both made from 1mm thick sterling silver sheet. I've used an 8mm round turquoise cabochon and 5mm round mother of pearl cabochon on one of them, the other a freeform Australian opal doublet and a 5mm round mother of pearl cabochon. They've been pierced out by hand, then textured with a ball pein hammer and engraved on the tails. The settings were made from scratch using fine silver bezel strip and sterling silver sheet. Lastly, they were oxidised using liver of sulphur and brushed to emphasise the textures on the silver and colour of the gemstones.
