Channel Wire Necklace
This is an easy & effective way to make a classy looking, sparkly necklace using faceted stones without needing any complex stone setting skills. We
have chosen Garnet and Citrine stones but the combinations you could choose are endless. Why not select colours to complement a special outfit or
birthstones for a friend?
How to Create:
1. Secure stones in mounts by ‘clicking’ the stone into the setting (put stone face down and ease the channel wire down until the girdle of the stone is in the channel). Put piece of 1mm wire into the end loop (or loops) to prevent closing the loop too much - if you don’t do this the loop may become too small to put your jump ring through. Then gently squeeze with round nose pliers at the base of the loop. With double loop pendants it is best to put a piece of wire in each end and squeeze alternately – take care not to squeeze one end too hard.
2. Find centre of chain and remove middle 6cms. (Cut off 1cm of this and put aside to add the 8x6 Citrine to the chandelier).
3. Attach the two 5mm Citrine Channel Wire settings into the cut ends of chain, using jump rings & re-attach remaining 5cm of chain in the
middle.
4. Measure 2cm above the Citrine stones and add the 8x6 Garnets in their settings into the cut chain.
5. Make up chandelier pendant by attaching the chain between the 8x6 Citrine Channel Wire and the centre loop, using jump rings. Add two 5mm Garnet Channel Wires either side.
6. Using a jump ring, attach chandelier pendant into centre loop of the chain between the 2 x 5mm Citrine Channel Wires using a jump ring.
Handy Tips:
Jump Ring ‘Mate’
We have found the easiest way to open & close jump rings is to use a handy jump ring mate. This can easily be made by
fastening a screw into a piece of wood. Grip the jump ring in Snipe Nose Pliers (join uppermost) & insert into the head of the
screw. The jump ring can then be opened & closed easily & accurately by turning the pliers.
Crimping
A beaded piece of jewellery can be attached to the clasp in a number of different ways & the use of crimps is a secure & popular method. We
stock a selection of crimps in Silver, Gold & Plated metal. Crimps can be secured by squeezing flat with snipe nose pliers. An alternative & neater
method is using the C139 Crimping Pliers. When using these useful pliers, squeeze the crimp to make a dent along the length (3), then put the
flattened tube (4) sideways into the groove on the pliers (5) & squeeze to close in half, this leaves a much smaller, neater & more secure crimp (6).
