Take the next step in PMC with this great new book
Have you started to use PMC but are struggling to find the inspiration to take the possibilities of PMC that little bit further? Then our new PMC book 'Precious Metal Clay Techniques' could be for you! Read on to hear what our newest team member Katie thought!
I’m relatively new to working with precious metal clay, having made a few pendants for various birthday presents, but now I’ve got to grips with the basics I really want to experiment more with PMC. However considering there are so many options with PMC I was struggling to get the inspiration to make something that little bit different. This book ‘Precious Metal Clay Techniques’ by Tim McCreight soon put pay to that!
The front cover alone sparked my interest, with an image of a gorgeous PMC and glass bead necklace, that I wanted to know how to make immediately! They say never judge a book by its cover but I’d ignore that rule with this book, the book itself definitely doesn’t disappoint.
Looking through the pages of the book really does get your creative juices flowing, each page is filled with beautiful photographs of projects selected from ten contemporary artists. The techniques cover everything from making silver beads and bezels to combining PMC with ceramics and fusing sterling silver with PMC. At first when I saw the stunning projects they seemed a little daunting and I began to think ‘I’ll never be able to do that’ but when you read the text it soon becomes clear that with the clear advice given the projects will be easy to recreate at home. Brilliant illustrations demonstrate the more technical parts which act really well as a visual aid for those more difficult parts; I often find it much easier when you can see how something was done so this really helped me.
The book itself is edited by metal smith and PMC expert Tim McCreight, he’s a real favourite with us at Kernowcraft as he’s written a few books that we sell, he always manages to offer great advice without being too patronising and this book is no exception with precise and personal advice from Tim’s vast experience in this area.
From using the PMC syringe to water etching on PMC there are so many techniques to try, I especially love one of the projects near the back of the book which shows you how to make some beautiful silver beads, all I need to do now is find the time to get experimenting so bye bye social life, hello jewellery making!
